Puppies, Puppies, Puppies: A One-Year Celebration!
It is hard to believe that more than a year has passed since the Puppy Center opened on our California campus. The Center opened just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so even though it has been closed to the public, it has remained open to our future canine heroes!
We are grateful to everyone who helped fund the Puppy Center and thank our staff for providing exceptional, loving care to our mamas and puppies. We look forward to the day when we can have visitors in the Learning Lab, the public area of the Puppy Center.

K9 Buddy Enriches Child’s Life
10-year-old Ella says she feels “love, happiness, and safety” when she’s around her K9 Buddy, Lafferty. Her mother, Christy, says the bond between the two has been a joy to behold. Besides learning how to care for Lafferty, Christy says her daughter is much more outgoing since Lafferty entered her life. GDB’s K9 Buddy program that matches specially selected dogs to become pets for children who are blind or visually impaired is truly life-changing.

Client’s New Guide Dog is a Perfect Match
Duke Castro says GDB’s client-guide dog matching process is “absolutely amazing.” But when he took his first walk with his guide dog Gryffindor, he admits he was a bit apprehensive. Duke had never had a guide dog and had relied on a white cane to avoid objects in his path.
“Gryffindor took off like he was a horse in the races, ready to go,” Duke recalls. But after completing their training together, Duke says he feels confident to go anywhere with his new guide.

Chance Meeting Leads to Legacy Gift
Like many guide dog supporters, Donna and her mother Marjorie were drawn to Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) because of their love of dogs. After seeing a newspaper ad for GDB’s Holiday Luncheon, Donna was intrigued. “It looked like fun and we wanted to know more about an organization that involved dogs in their mission in such a unique way.” And that event marked the beginning of Donna and Marjorie’s long and fruitful relationship with Guide Dogs for the Blind.
