Planes for Puppies! We Need Your Help to Transport Our Dogs

The pandemic has impacted our ability to safely transport puppies and dogs to and from our California and Oregon campuses. We are grateful to Alaska Airlines for helping us transport our canine heroes. However, many other airlines have discontinued flying dogs in the cargo areas, and limited space within our puppy truck makes it difficult for employees to social distance from one another. If you know someone with a private plane who may be willing to help, we’d love to hear from you! Or please donate to help pay for Emergency Transportation for our puppies and dogs!

GDB Grad Describes the Guide Dog Lifestyle

“Spontaneity. Freedom. Self-reliance. Possibilities.” These are a few key words GDB graduate Bruce Gilmour uses to express the guide dog lifestyle. Bruce received his first guide dog in 1985 and through the years has had five guide dogs that have been his partners in opening doors to what he describes as “opportunity, contentment, and enrichment.”

Navigating Social Distancing with a Guide Dog

With this pandemic, we all know it’s important to maintain social distancing when we leave our homes. TV station FOX5 in Las Vegas featured a recent story on GDB grad Ja'Nesha Murphy who has learned to navigate social distancing with her guide dog. The news segment features clips of Ja'Nesha and her yellow Lab guide dog walking at a park, video interview footage with GDB President and CEO, Christine Benninger, and clips of socially distanced training techniques.

GDB Archer Hits the Bull’s-Eye

GDB is proud to be featured once again in the PBS KVIE series ViewFinder, "Devoted Dogs." This time, GDB alum Janice Walth is profiled with her guide dog Vargo. Janice has always lived a full life, earning her bachelor’s degree and establishing a successful career. But it wasn’t until she got a guide dog that Janice gained a newfound sense of independence that changed her life. Today, she’s a world class competitive archer. Note: Janice’s segment is about 18 minutes in.

GDB’s Alumni Group Provides Mentoring, Networking, and More

Did you know that GDB is the only guide dog school in North America with an active and engaged Alumni Association? Regional chapters organize activities and events. The GDB Alumni Association provides graduates with opportunities for mentoring, networking, and advocacy, as well as to actively be involved in our mission. Last October, 150 Alumni reunited in Portland, OR for two days of amazing activities and lots of fun.
